The Spice Girls were never meant to be taken seriously. Their 15-minute
domination of pop culture in the last two years of the 20th century was
fleeting, and the songs that provided the soundtrack to the ultra-goofy
‘Girl Power’ movement don’t hold up so well a decade later. “Wannabe”
is still one of the most irritating songs ever written, and “Spice Up
Your Life” is just silly, but “Say You’ll Be There” retains some of
it’s saccharine sweetness. Unlikely to appeal to anyone other than old
fans, it’s still a nice collection of one of pop music’s great novelty
acts. – dusty culpepper
