As managing director of banking products for UBS, Raquel Oden is responsible for driving client experiences with the firm’s groundbreaking lending, mortgages, credit cards and cash management product initiatives.
A supporter and champion of female empowerment in corporate America, Oden has taken serious strides to increase the numbers of female executives at UBS. “For example, I chair a black and Hispanic affinity group. I sit on the board of our women’s network to make sure that we have minorities and women in senior positions at the firm. Also, I am running a women’s leadership conference [where] 400 UBS female employees are pulled out of the office for a day to focus on leadership and training,” explains Oden.
In addition to partnering with Rainbow/PUSH Coalition’s Annual Wall Street Project, Oden strongly urges women to take part in events where issues affecting them receive a platform. “[The Wall Street Project] allows women to get together to talk about their issues about being two types of minorities – a woman and a black woman. We had the opportunity not only to share the facts and statistics, but more importantly, to give basic tips and skills on how we have been able to personally define or create the best practices for ourselves and others,” says Oden. -jason thompson and roz edward
