Chief Security Something-Or-Other, Mozilla
Most
people decide what they want to be at a fairly young age, but an
integral part of deciding what you want to do (or how far you want to
go) is discovering what you do best.
For Window Snyder, chief
security “something-or-other” for Mozilla, that’s the most important
part of determining your value to an organization.
“[You have] to recognize what you’re good at, what other people come to
you for, how people perceive you and leverage that in order to build on
[it],” she explains. “If [the] people who come to you for advice on a
particular area of expertise are currently limited to your company or
organization, make sure that other people in your region or in the
industry have access to that expertise.”
At Mozilla, Snyder works to ensure Internet browsing is safe and
secure. “[We work] to keep the Web open and safe and provide an
innovative, interesting experience for our users that can be
customized,” she says, adding that she’s especially enthusiastic about
users having a customized, uniquely rewarding experience online. “[My
goals] are all related to security and securing the Web browser against
the emerging threats we’re seeing.”
And, for Snyder, making the Web and all of its possibilities more
accessible to the general public is her greatest reward. “[There are]
4,000 different [browser] add-ons that are community-developed,” she
says. “It’s something that’s available to the community that anyone can
participate in and that’s really incredible.” –todd williams
