Alfamega – What Ramadan Means to Me

Alfamega - What Ramadan Means to MeMuslims around the world are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and encourages spiritual purification. A devout Muslim, Grand Hustle’s Alfamega provides his thoughts on Ramadan.- amir shaw
“Ramadan is very important to my family and me. It’s the time of year when you are able to clear your mind and body. From sun up to sun down, we can’t eat or drink. We also can’t have any sexual contact and we have to refrain from sexual thoughts during the hours of fasting.
But Ramadan gives you time to gather all of your thoughts. It takes a lot of discipline and it helps you to stay focused on what is really important in life. Instead of concentrating on the negative things, it allows you to calm down and get rid of any hatred that is in your heart. You get a chance to know yourself better and think more.
I’m traveling a lot right now to do shows, but I go in and say my prayers when I get down time. Along with fasting and prayer, we also have to pay Zakat. Zakat is when we give back by helping the less fortunate by doing community service. The majority of my family is Muslim, so I also try to spend more time with them when I’m not on the road. You sacrifice a lot during Ramadan, but I think that it is well worth it.”- Alfamega as told to amir shaw
