Run DMC and Bobby Womack Nominated for 2009 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Legendary rap group, Run DMC and R&B veteran, Bobby Womack have been nominated for the 2009 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The two pioneering acts are joining an induction group that includes Metallica among others.
If inducted, Run DMC would join Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five as the only other rap group to claim such an honor. The pioneering group was also the first rap group to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, the first to sign an endorsement deal (with Adidas) and the first to have a rap video appear on MTV.
Bobby Womack, who began his career in the early 60s made a name for himself as a session guitarist early on and later flooded radio with a slew of soul hits in the 70s and early 80s including the smashes, “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” and “Across 110th Street.”
The Rock Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday, April 4, at Public Hall in Cleveland. –j.h.
