about a recession. Ex-record label heavyweight, Marion
“Suge” Knight is suing rapper/producer Kanye West blaming
‘Ye for damages that resulted from a nightclub shooting three
years ago.
In
August 2005, Knight was shot in the right leg at West’s pre-MTV
Video Music Awards party at the Shore Club in Miami. Eyewitnesses
confirmed that at least six shots were fired during the incident. The
assailant was never apprehended.
Knight,
who also sought bankruptcy protection in 2006, filed the suit against
the Chicago star on Sept. 12. In the lawsuit, Knight claims that West
is culpable in the crime since the shooter was able to get past the
party security with a weapon. Knight also alleges that he suffered
blood loss, but also lost a 15-carat diamond stud worth $135,000, and
had to take a private jet back to California. Knight is seeking damages
from West, which include medical expenses from the shooting and mental
anguish for the loss and use and enjoyment of the earring.
“It
was reasonably foreseeable to defendants that the party would present a
dangerous environment with the possibility of weapons (including
firearms) being used by or against party guests given the well-known
feuds that have at times pitched East Coast rap and hip-hop stars
against West Coast rap and hip-hop stars, some of whom would be
attending the party with their associates,” the suit reads, adding that “certain hip-hop artists who were invited to the party … were known not to be friendly to Mr. Knight.” —j.h.
