It
looks like time is running out for former NFL superstar and current
convicted felon O.J. Simpson. Hoping for a new trial, Simpson’s
request was denied by the Nevada judge who presided over his conviction
in the robbery at gunpoint of two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las
Vegas hotel room.
Clark
County District Judge Jackie Glass decided that challenges raised by
lawyers for Simpson did not merit a new trial. “All of the issues have
been preserved for the (Nevada) Supreme Court,” Glass said Friday.
Glass also acknowledged that her ruling could be appealed to the
state’s appellate court.
Simpson,
who was shackled, did not speak during the 20-minute hearing. The judge
also denied his request to be released on bail pending his sentencing
on Dec. 5. “They face life sentences, mandatory prison,” Glass said,
referring to Simpson and his co-defendant Clarence Stewart. “Your
motions are being denied.”
Both Simpson and Stewart were convicted on Oct. 3 of kidnapping, armed
robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Simpson’s defense has
been that he was simply trying to recover stolen mementos.
Each faces five years to life in prison for each one of their two
kidnapping convictions and a mandatory sentence of at least two years
or up to 30 years on each of the two armed robbery convictions. –dewayne rogers
