Every
year, thousands of children endure illnesses that require care from
specialized physicians. Since 1998, Children’s Healthcare of
Atlanta has administered treatment for children who have been affected
by cancer, sickle-cell disease, hemophilia and cystic fibrosis. CHA is
a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and volunteer support
to provide services to families in need. The group recently teamed up
with the Atlanta Falcons to host the Celebrity FootBowl Tournament at Ten Pin in Atlanta.

“We
have always received great support from the Atlanta Falcons,”
said Jessica Kilgallen of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
“This event is important because we make every effort not to turn
any children away because of their family’s inability to pay.
This event reminds people how important the community is to our
services.”

During
the fundraising and awareness event, players from the Atlanta Falcons
bowled with celebrities Evander Holyfield and NeNe Leakes of the
“Real Housewives of Atlanta,” among others. The
accompanying silent auction featured unique sports and entertainment
memorabilia. The Atlanta Falcons, who are currently in the midst of a
surprising playoff run, were excited to contribute to such an important
cause.

“It
feels great to be a part of this event,” quarterback D.J.
Shockley said. “I’ve visited a lot of hospitals and helped
kids who have special needs. I have two brothers with fragile X
syndrome, so I understand the importance of events like this. Bowling
is a fun way to give back and it’s always a pleasure for me to
help other people who are in need.”
