The Black Eyed Peas Granted, they did manage to tick off a large portion of their original fan base by adding blonde pop princess Fergie in 2003 and abandoning the quirky b-boyisms of their early work for the glossy cheesiness of hits like “My Humps,” but way back in 1998, the Peas were one of Cali’s most promising alt-rap acts. Alongside Jurassic 5 and Blackalicious, they helped rejuvenate nationwide interest in the West Coast alternative hip-hop scene at the dawn of the new millennium.
