The Paypa Boiz, a Detroit-based rap group, sat down with rolling out recently to talk about their Street Newz, Volume 1 CD compilation. The album is a unique blend of Motor City attitude with elements of East Coast, West Coast and Dirty South hip-hop.

Now, moving into more mainstream productions and a universal sound, rappers Arcane, Big Isz and master DJ Lenn Swann (no not the legendary athlete), have combined their talents to creatively put to music the reality and grit that is the new sound of the Motor City. -roz edward

What can we expect from this album? This album is classic. This album will reach a lot of people, not just in Detroit but nationwide. The construction is more diverse … it’s nostalgic at times and sometime irreverent, but it’s all real and true.

What is the inspiration for the music? The title really represents the body of work we put down here. Life in the streets is the inspiration and the motivation. We have a song called “If You Give Love Today” where we deal with a lot of things that are going [on], but what we say is that the thing that is important is what your spirit is doing while you’re dealing with all the situations that come up.

Is the music industry too commercial? A lot of people come in commercial. We just try to make songs that a lot of people can relate to. . You can always take at least one song you hear and apply it to your life to fit whatever situation you’re going through. A lot of tracks have the potential to be commercial, but the listeners decide that.

What’s next? . We’re gonna keep givin’ you that underground music that keeps you bangin’.
