Kanye West snags Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album at AMAs
It took three albums, but Kanye West was finally honored at the American Music Awards last night. West beat out surrogate big brother Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne and Flo-Rida, among others. He took home Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album (Graduation) for Rap/Hip-Hop Music. West also performed at the show dominated by the industry’s young up and comers like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus.
The timing of his first-ever AMA victory couldn’t have come at a better time for West. The Chicago MC/producer and music superstar is set to release his fourth studio album, 808s & Heartbreak today. In what’s shaping up to be his most alternative-sounding production yet, West is sure to see big numbers but not nearly as much as the astronomical 957,000 copies Graduation sold. West will be going to bat with Ludcaris, who will be dropping his much-anticipated Theater of the Mind. –gavin philip godfrey
