Young Jeezy’s latest single “My President” and
accompanying video are much more than just another hit record added to
the mountain of No. 1 bullet spots for the trap star-turned-rapper. Let
video director Gabriel Hart tell it, this is history in the making.
“The
significance of being in front of Ebenezer Baptist Church is
huge… Jeezy wanted to be here to be honest,” says Hart on
location from the video shoot. “He didn’t want to go
anywhere else [but] right here.”
Paying
homage to both President-elect Barack Obama and Civil Rights martyr Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr., the video was shot in Atlanta’s historic
Old Fourth Ward, right on the steps of King’s church.
And
he captured every awe-inspiring moment of this momentous occasion in
high-definition video. Hart’s choice of weaponry is one of the
best parts of the entire process for the director-producer-editor.
“I
edit everything I shoot. Tonight, we’ll have a rough cut.
That’s just how I rock,” he explains. “With HD, you
can edit on the spot. As soon as you finish shooting, you can go right
in the editing room … like right now. We needed a fast
turnaround. Plus, it looks great.”
In
addition, Hart also directed Jeezy’s “Who Dat,”
fellow Atlanta-based rapper Rocko’s “This Morning”
and Atlantic Records artist B.O.B.’s “In the Sky.”
