CEO, Black Shopping Channel
Cleveland Gary launched the African American television shopping network, the Black Shopping Channel, across airwaves in major cities across the United States in the summer of 2008. And while many aspiring African American entrepreurs have the three D’s of business prerequisites — determination, desire and drive — many lack the capital to start and sustain a successful business enterprise. “If the knowledge and the passion are there, it is incumbent on the entrepreneurs to develop the resources and build on them. The return on this activity is tremendous and that’s how you generate business and dollars,” advises Gary.
The Black Shopping Channel has created a platform for aspiring African American entrpreneurs to own and operate their own business on the blackshoppingchannel.com virtual mall as well as showcase their products on the Black Shopping Channel TV Network. The Black Shopping Channel’s platform provides an opportunity for the African American entrepreneur and consumer to own part of the system in which they purchase products.
“This forum is intended for people are who are burning to market their own businesses and be financially independent … and to live the American dream,” continues Gary, who adds that during the current economic crisis, the Black Shopping Channel may be of even greater benefit.
“We wanted to address the economic crisis by getting people watching, participating and involved. People are hungry and they’re looking for alternatives and nontraditional business and retail experiences,” says Gary. –roz edward
