Michael
Jenkins, who was the former national champion at Ohio State before
becoming a feature receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, is not the most
loquacious athlete you’ll ever meet. Jenkins, 26, tends to let
his play do the talking for him, on and off the field, and that
includes his work in the community. The Tampa, Fla., native and
first-round draft pick was among the horde of Falcons and front-office
staff that crowded inside the chic Ten Pin Bowling Alley in
Atlanta’s Atlantic Station in a charitable gesture for
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. –terry shropshire

How do you get amped up and ready for a game?
Really, just listening to music. I don’t try to do too much,
trying to get too amped. I really just try to stay calm before the game
or else I will wear myself out. I listen to a little bit of everything.
I’m an old-school guy. So I got from Luther to Lenny Williams
down to T.I., Lil Wayne and everything like that.

What other charities or community events are you involved with?
Well, I’m always trying to help [with] child obesity, [and] educating kids to stay in shape.

What were your thoughts the moment you learned that Barack Obama was elected the 44th president?
It’s huge, it’s huge, to know that you can be anything you
want in life. [With the election of] the first black president in
history, [now] we know that anything is possible.
