Labelle’s Electrifying Reunion Surges Apollo Theater

Passionate
fans of Labelle, featuring Patti Labelle, Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx,
witnessed a historic event in Harlem at the Apollo Theater when the
group reunited after 30 plus years to the same stage where their career
was launched.
ABC “The
View’s” host Whoopi Goldberg, making a surprise appearance,
introduced the often-imitated, legendary dynamic 70’s
rock-soul-dance trio who was greeted by thunderous applause. Dressed in
retro vintage style, they wore black leather and feathers complemented
with funky hairstyles. Patti’s costume in particular was fierce,
featuring an alien-like tail.
Labelle
opened with “Miss Otis Regrets.” Patti’s singing was
so dynamic that by song seven, “Candlelight,” there was a
power surge. Following the intermission, Labelle returned backed up by
Impact, a 40 member gospel choir, singing “What Can I Do For
You,” to handclaps and conga drums.
The trio released an album, Back to Now, this past October. – risasi zachariah dais
