Recently,
two-time NBA champion and TNT sports analyst Kenny Smith invited a few
celebrity friends to help him give back to needy families in the
Atlanta area. Over 1,000 individuals lined up outside of Compassion
Atlanta to receive free food, clothes and shoes provided by Smith and
the Feed the Children Foundation.

“I have worked diligently with Feed the
Children in the past,” Smith said. “They identify the
families that need help and we do our best to help them. I think the
holiday season is a good time to give, but this is what we do
throughout the year. When you do events like this, it gives you an
understanding of what being blessed is all about. It’s about
helping people and giving them a hand.”

Hip-hop
artist Fat Joe and Smith’s TNT colleague, Ernie Johnson, also
contributed to the families. “This is the worst recession in our
time and people need love and help,” Fat Joe said.
“I’m giving 800 sneakers to the kids. A lot of times, kids
just want to look good. So I brought them shoes so they would feel more
confident about themselves while at school.”

Johnson
helped deliver care packages to the homes of the families in need.
“We would see some people struggling and we would help them take
their stuff to their homes,” Johnson said. “We’re
blessed. We’re all God’s kids and it’s up to us to
serve others. I wish that we could turn a page and never have days like
this. But we must do our part as long as there are people who [are in]
need.” –amir shaw
