Growing up in Liberia, producer L-Roc learned to love music at an early age. “I’ve been playing piano since I was five,” says the musician. “When I started, my parents knew I had it in me. As I was learning classical, I was doing other stuff naturally.” He’s spent most of his life all over the world, and it shows in his musical outlook. “From living in Liberia, the Bay Area, and Europe, my musical vocabulary [and] influences come from different artists and culture–the styles, the melodies, the rhythms—it’s all in my blood.”
Since coming stateside, L-Roc has worked with some of the biggest hitmakers in the industry, including Jermaine Dupri and Lil Jon; but he has never limited himself. He founded his own production company, I Speak Music, and has been open to all genres and artists. “I Speak Music is more about expanding—I’m even working with artists that have worked with Eric Clapton and Garth Brooks,” he explains. “I’m a musician and I love all kinds of music.”
L-Roc feels that this is the perfect time for him to launch his own team of producers and songwriters and really cement his brand in the industry. He’s benefited from working with the biggest and continuing to learn and grow—as an artist and as a businessman. “I paid my dues for a long time,” acknowledges L-Roc. “When you start having success, you start to see the benefits of what you’ve learned.” –todd williams
