Willy – life of the party

Willy - life of the party

Willy Joy is a self-proclaimed “weird nerd.” Sure, at first glance, the kid with big glasses and the skinny frame doesn’t look like a budding musical force from the Midwest, but in fact, that is exactly what the Chicago deejay is.

A product of Minneapolis, Joy was infatuated with music at a young age, but found his early inclinations to be a reflection of his different personalities. “I went through the really stereotypical high school phases — first I was the metal head kid and then I was the raver with the big pants and then I was the backpack hip-hopper,” Joy says.

In the Windy City, Joy – the kid who fell in love with turntables at 16 – has made a name for himself with his popular Fly By Night party series and working with everyone from Nick Catchdubs to the Cool Kids. Creating his own brand of rap-techno-rock fusion, Joy has carved a niche for himself and established a platform for other artists.
