Lil Wayne Hosts ESPN’s Super Bowl Party Red Carpet

Lil Wayne

Nearly
three weeks after Lil Wayne visited the ESPN studios to take on sports
analyst Skip Bayless in a debate that was featured on the show “1st
& 10,” the eight-time Grammy nominated rap artist served as ESPN’s
official red carpet correspondent at ESPN The Magazine’s Next Super Bowl Party. Moments before stepping into the shoes of a broadcaster, Lil Wayne discussed why sports inspires him

“You
have to be dedicated in both [sports and music],” Lil Wayne said. You
have to have the same kind of drive to make music and the same type of
drive to play sports.”

After Lil Wayne
completed his interviews with NFL players Chad Johnson, Joe Flaco, and
future Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, Wyclef Jean sent the party into
overdrive by performing a medley of his hits while flanked by nearly 50
women who danced with him onstage.

Wyclef
spoke about the ongoing connection between hip-hop and sports before
his resounding performance. “It’s an automatic relationship sometimes
because sports figures want to be musicians and musicians want to be
athletes,” Wyclef said. “Naturally, when you are about to start a
workout, you put on music. As a musician, I’m amazed by how these
athletes can run and fly through the air.”

Other notable attendees included Jordin Sparks, Sean Kingston, Cuba Gooding Jr., Evander Holyfield, and Donovan McNabb. —amir shaw
