1. He could sell water to a whale. The Carter III was the first album to sell a million copies in one week since 50 Cent’s The Massacre in 2005. To date, it’s sold over 2.5 million, making it the biggest selling record of 2008.
2. He’s knows how to use the Internet.
Seriously, in this day and age being Internet savvy is a necessity for
any artist to survive. But Wayne has taken online exposure to new
heights. He even has a blog on ESPN for goodness’ sake.
3. He’s the Michael Jackson of hip-hop.
The average 20-year-old may not remember 14 year-old Wayne from Cash
Money’s super group, the Hot Boys. But there was a time when Weezie was
just a kid (who didn’t curse), clamoring for respect from his more
popular label mates like Juvenile and BG. Ten years later, he’s one of
the biggest stars on the planet.
4. He’s the Best Rapper Alive. Or at least he says so, and we all know what repetition does for the average American — look at Paris Hilton.
5. He takes notes from President Obama.
Yes, some people are skeptical about his rock album, Rebirth, which
will hit this April, but Wayne’s diversified interests have made him
appealing to folks across the spectrum.
6. He “plays” the guitar. OK, he’s no Jimi Hendrix, but guitar players get respect everywhere, especially from the ladies.
7. He’s got the juice. No, really. Have you seen his Gatorade commercials?
8. He’s not afraid of failure.
Pop, rock, metal, pass or fail — Weezie will try anything at least once
and that usually makes for the most daring, interesting artists.
