Dr. Ian Smith ON The Benefits of The 4 Day Diet

Dr. Ian Smith’s 4 Day Diet is an innovative nutritional system, designed to help you overcome many of the psychological hindrances to successful dieting. The good doctor addresses some of the emotional reasons that people tend to eat compulsively. “When people are not feeling right or are stressed, they have these emotional triggers that lead to overeating which leads to … becoming overweight. You do things called ‘mindless eating’ [and] eating becomes your companion,” explains Dr. Smith. “I try to teach people what these triggers are. Once you can get that under control, you can get a handle on it and avoid the pitfalls that so many people fall into.”

Smith formulated the 4 Day Diet to help people get those issues under control, with a refreshing approach to an issue that significant numbers of us struggle with. “So many people are struggling with obesity,” he explains. “There’s dieting and exercise, but with the 4 Day Diet there’s a third component — the mind.” Dr. Smith emphasizes the mental and psychological approach to changing your diet, getting your mind in the right place and staying motivated to resist temptation. “If you can get your mind in the right place, your body will follow,” says Dr. Smith. “Dieting is 80 per cent mental and 20 per cent physical.”

“You’re not going to lose your weight in four days,” Dr. Smith says with a laugh. “It’s called the 4 Day Diet because every four days you change the types of food that you eat. Why is that critical? The number one reason people fall off of their diets is because they get tired of the food, they get bored [because] it’s the same thing all the time. With the 4 Day Diet you never get bored, because every four days you’re eating something different.” –todd williams
