Lashell Griffin – Her Life Is Proof That Dreams Come True

Lashell Griffin - Her Life Is Proof That Dreams Come True

Gospel Singer, Dreams Are Possible
She won “Oprah’s Pop Star Challenge.” She’s a spokesperson for Ashley Stewart clothing line. She’s currently on a national tour bringing the good news to churches. She has a video. It’s hard to believe LaShell Griffin is a newbie to gospel music. The beautiful gospel singer with the powerhouse vocals is a wife, mother of four (two adults and two teenagers) and the embodiment of grace. But don’t get it twisted; this songbird’s no diva. A few minutes before sitting down with rolling out to discuss her national tour and new CD, Dreams Are Possible, the gregarious Griffin was shooting layups in high heels. –michele fling

You know how to play basketball?
I better know how to play; I have four kids [laughing]. And I didn’t even break a fingernail [still laughing].

What projects are you working on?
My husband and I have a record label called D.A.P. Music, which stands for Dreams Are Possible, and with that we have been able to go through some awesome doors to set the path for our children — and other young people that believe in their dreams and desire to minister in the world and in the church. We’ve been able to finish our first video, the ‘Dreams Are Possible’ video and we are pitching that to Harpo … and they have approved a particular part that we needed approval on. We’re [preparing] to do another video called ‘I Almost Blew It’ and that one is going to be hilarious. I made them wear a grill for that one, but it’s going to take you to another side of LaShell.

What advice would you give to a young person interested in pursuing a career in gospel music?
I would encourage young people to stay humble … and treat people like you want to be treated and watch God open up doors and use you.
