Tonex returns with his latest offering, Unspoken. Although the talented crooner clearly has a great voice and sense of musicality, his sound at times is over the top and a bit scattered in approach. Listeners will have to search to find the spirituality in tracks like the frantic, “When I Call” and the slow grooving, “Cool With U,” but on songs like “Blend,” he manages to deliver a poignant message about non-conformity. Tonex definitely isn’t your average gospel artist, and by and large that suits him just fine. –rouge marie
