CEO of Amerigroup Community Care

CEO of Amerigroup Community Care, Dr. Tunde Sotunde began his career as a pediatrician and has since carved an enviable niche in the world of healthcare. Dr. Sotunde was a driving force behind Little Clinics–in-store healthcare services that improved access for many African Americans. Now, he’s helping Amerigroup in its continued mission to improve the health of the people. “Knowledge is power,” Dr. Sotunde proclaims. “To get that knowledge you have to have access to information. Like anything else, if individuals have access to the right information, they can make those healthcare choices.”

A national healthcare plan is a big part of being able to help African Americans gain a better grasp of their health. “A national healthcare plan is important from the perspective of providing coverage and access to all Americans,” the doctor says. “Obviously, there isn’t going to be a one-size-fits-all approach. The approach should really involve both public and private sector partnerships; it should involve all of the stakeholders in healthcare. Quality, convenient, affordable, accessible, and effective healthcare services, that really is where we should be focused as a nation.”

Dr. Sotunde is especially proud of helping Amerigroup maintain it’s strong ties and commitment to improving the health of the public. “Amerigroup is just a great organization that at its core is focused on providing services to those individuals that are the most vulnerable in our society,” says Dr. Sotunde. “All the employees at Amerigroup are community-based and are all community-focused. Here in Georgia we have a team that’s out there everyday, every minute, engaging with the community; hosting events, health fairs, providing resources and tools for individuals to live better healthy, productive lives–one individual at a time.” –todd williams
