“If you’re around somebody all year ‘round and you don’t argue, somebody is hiding something,” Dre City reasons laughingly.
Their latest singles, “Polo” featuring Juney Boom Data and “Rockin” have been circulating heavy in the streets, although the two say that their music doesn’t just conjure up images of hood life. Instead, their sound is about bringing fun back to hip-hop, which they say is an element that has been missing for far too long.
“Hip-hop needs to be more fun,” Jay, who hails from East Atlanta explains. Dre City, who is a Missouri-native agrees. “It’s like whenever you buy an album, everybody is trying to convince you of something,” Dre comments, adding that the duo will soon be heading to the Netherlands to work with artists there. “Just do your music, have fun and at the end of the day, if you can make people want every product you put out, that’s the best success you can have in this business.”
The Polo-loving group who came together a couple of years ago, is striving to make sure that they are not lumped into a prototypical rapper category. For them, it’s about continuously expanding their musical scope. “Our sound is entertaining,” Jay says, “it’s street, but energetic and fun at the same time.”
