How many teen rappers have smoothly segued into adult superstars? That’s the question one is forced to ask with every mediocre release from rapper Bow Wow. Jermaine Dupri’s protégés were never known for originality (Kris Kross’ Naughty By Nature-ness, Da Brat’s early fixation with Death Row-era Snoop Dogg) and on New Jack City II, Bow Wow is doing his toughest T.I. impression. Sadly, it all sounds forced and it seems unlikely that awkward, unsexy cuts like “Pole In My Basement” will make him credible. –dusty culpepper
