Lil Wayne and DJ Drama Lawsuit Clarified

Lil Wayne and DJ Drama Lawsuit ClarifiedThe Internet was abuzz April 2, with news that Lil Wayne had filed a lawsuit in February 2009, against a number of DJs including the Aphilliates, which was started by longtime friend and collaborator, DJ Drama. Some fans expressed surprise and even outrage at the lawsuit since Drama is widely credited with helping to propel Wayne to superstardom. Because of Wayne’s previous negative comments about DJs, Drama and Wayne’s lawyer sought to bring some clarity to the situation.

Candace Carponter confirmed the authenticity of the documents to MTV News, but clarified that the suit was not being pushed directly by Lil Wayne, but rather by his recording home, Cash Money Records. The lawsuit stems from an ongoing case against BCD Music Group, an independent distribution company based in Texas. Carponter said that summonses were sent within the past two weeks to BCD Music Group Inc; Deep Distribution World Wide Inc; Tyree C. Simmons; Cinque Productions Inc; Aphilliates Music Group; Makin Moves Entertainment; and Frank Nino.

“BCD claimed the right to sell the music,” Carponter told MTV News. “So we named them in complaints and they have 30 days to answer the charges, based on when they receive the papers.”

Legal issues aside, Drama says that he and Lil Wayne are “good.”

“This is not a case of Lil Wayne vs. DJ Drama. Me and Wayne are good,” Drama told MTV News. “I am confident that this matter will be resolved quickly without harming the relationships between myself, Wayne and Cash Money Records. However, due to the ongoing nature of this litigation I do not wish to make any further comments.”jh
