Actress Della Cole, best known for her role in “In the Heat of the Night,” has created a diversity pipeline that leads from her acting studio to major Hollywood studios. The co-founder of yourAct Acting Studios and Sketchworks Theater with her husband, Bob Harter, addressed the predominantly African American crowd at A.C.T.4Life’s “Hollywood South” event recently on her renowned studio’s attributes. Specifically, Cole explained how her studio enables aspiring actors to:

I want to support … Atlanta actors, directors, filmmakers and anyone interested in the arts … because … we open our doors to all,” Cole said. “We open our studios to young film directors and producers that don’t have a place to go and cast. We open our doors to our students, because we open those possibilities for those young producers that are coming in.”

Cole says Atlanta is perched in an enviable position to become the next capitol of entertainment. “The state of the industry in Atlanta is fine. We can thank … Tyler Perry. The man is awesome. He is bringing so much work to this city,” Cole says.

In fact, Cole and Harter used their studio to find actors for one of Tyler Perry Studios’ recent motion pictures. “We take people and they are working with Tyler Perry now. And they studied with us,” she said, her voice coated with excitement. “I remember the first casting call we did for Tyler Perry, and the line was wrapped around the building and down the street. And there was one guy in line, and he said, ‘ It’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like this,’ and now he’s a working actor. It’s great to see people come through the ranks.”

Moreover, you could see the audience, filled with prospective actors, teeming with anxious excitement about their chances of one day working with Tyler Perry Studios and others. –terry shropshire
