On May 8, at 7 p.m. Charlotte’s Blake Hotel will be transformed into a beautiful example of all that’s right in the world of art and music. On that night, Gentleman Jack’s Art, Beats + Lyrics will bring it’s multi-media art show to the hotel to explore seven themes in hip-hop. Artistic expression in photography, graffiti, and urban paintings will be fused with DJ’ing, break dancing, and live music. The lofty endeavor, established by Jabari Graham, was born of his effort to promote love for the culture and in response to his own need to survive.
“This really came out of necessity,” Graham shares, when detailing the origins of Art, Beats, and Lyrics. “I had been laid off from my job, and I had to either go out and find another job, or make one for myself. I decided to take this risk, and it paid off.”
The payoff is being realized across the country, as Gentleman Jack’s Art, Beats + Lyrics readies itself for a national tour. According to Graham, this new partnership with Gentlemen Jack is sure to provide a string of memorable nights. “This is something that I am very excited about,” Graham explains. “With our new partnership with Gentleman Jack, we will not only be reaching the people who have come to our events before, but we will be reaching a new group of people as well. In the past, our events would draw over 1200 people, but we are expecting even greater things this year. We have worked hard to create an atmosphere that has a cool vibe, great music, art and of course free drinks … you really can’t beat that.” –dewayne rogers
