While Atlanta is sitting pretty atop hip-hop’s throne, Chicago has been steadily giving the ruler a run for its money. Although it’s touted for having the same level of musical diversity, the Windy City has somehow managed to more or less stay under the national radar until now. From hood to hipster, purveyors of the city’s bubbling scene, FSD’s Andrew Barber and Timbuck2, manage to pack the entire spectrum of talent into a 23-track opus. Whether it’s the gritty street side on Skooda Chose’s “45,” Pugz Atomz triumphant “King Theme Music,” or Lupe Fiasco’s “Fire,” the FSD mixtape is sure to make the ‘Go proud by touching all bases, while at the same time updating the rest of us on what we’ve been missing. —gavin philip godfrey
