Irv Gotti’s wife, Deb Lorenzo, isn’t the only one looking to divorce him. Singer Lloyd has just announced that he will be parting ways with Gotti’s label, The Inc. after releasing three albums with the imprint.
“I’m ready for a change,” Lloyd said in a statement. “There’s no bad blood. I just feel I need to take more control over my career and get a fresh start. Hopefully, Irv can understand my position.”
Lloyd’s 2007 album, Street Love, went gold and he has collaborated with everyone from Lil Wayne to Scarface over the course of his career. The crooner says that he is currently working on a new album, and plans to enlist the help of Jim Jonsin, Cool and Dre and Rodney Jerkins.
“In the future, I still hope to work with Irv as a producer as well,” the singer added.
Lloyd’s manager, Henry “Noonie” Lee says that the split from The Inc. was necessary.
“We find ourselves in limbo for the second time in three years,” Lee said in a statement. “It’s frustrating to know that opportunities to advance Lloyd’s career are out there but we can’t exploit them due to our current situation. Even though Lloyd is appreciative of the opportunity that has been afforded him by The Inc., he feels it’s time for him to move on and seek opportunities that will allow him to build and enhance his brand.”
Last month, The Inc. announced the release of singer Ashanti from her contract. The label has also ended its three-year joint venture with Universal Records and has yet to partner with another major label.
