For the past 15 years, Rynthia Manning Rost, vice president of public affairs for GEICO Insurance, has been perfecting the art of multitasking. Her seemingly endless duties include coordinating a regional group of 15 associates and the placement of ads highlighting the company’s loveable gecko icon with the National Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
In addition, Rost oversees outreach activities with Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross, the United Way and works personally with civil rights organizations like the NAACP, the National Urban League and the Black Ministers’ Council to address issues surrounding financial literacy.
And if that weren’t enough, the talented dynamo serves on the business boards of the Washington Economic Club, the Federal City Council and the Board of Trade, as well as the nonprofit boards of the Urban League and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.
“In a lot of ways my job is community outreach and I accomplish that through volunteer grassroots coordination,” explains the Fisk University and Indiana University School of Law graduate.
“I love working with affinity groups to design opportunities for them to save their members money by purchasing insurance from us. . My staff and I sell and service auto insurance and [a] broad range of insurance products available through GEICO, while at the same time giving back to the community [that] we sell our products to. We couldn’t be effective in the community unless we focus[ed] on that.” -cw
