Fans and critics alike agree that with the release of his multiplatinum, Kamikaze, Twista veered away from the gritty, spit-fire flow that made him one of hip-hop’s most respected MC’s. Category F5 offers listeners that vintage Twista thanks to his reuniting with production partner-in-crime, Traxster, who handles a lot of the knob turning. From the intoxicating ode to the ganja on “Fire” to the psychodrama assisted “Misunderstood” Twis’ has plenty of bangers for the streets. Even when he goes the pop route on the catchy “Birthday,” or links up with R. Kelly for the sultry “Yellow Light,” he never sounds too corny. If this album is any indication, Twista has found the perfect musical balance in his career. –gavin philip godfrey
