Pittsburgh Steelers’ Keyaron Fox Discusses How Meeting President Obama Compares to being a Super Bowl Champion

alt

Keyaron Fox seems to be having a pretty good year. The Pittsburgh
Steelers’ linebacker played a role in helping his team win Super Bowl
43, he got the chance to visit the White House for the first time, and
he launched the Keyaron Fox Foundation this summer. Fox discusses how
winning a Super Bowl ring measures up to shaking hands with the first
black American president.-a.r.

How did it feel to meet President Barack Obama for the first time?
It was an experience and privilege to be the first Super Bowl-winning
team to visit the first black president. So much goes on at the White
House that you never have an idea of how special that place is. To be
able to shake his hand was an honor. He spoke with us and was very down
to earth. You love to see someone in a position of power to be able to
communicate with you on a personal level.

Does Going to the White House Compare to Going to the Super Bowl?
In a sense, going to the White House was like going to the Super Bowl.
I wouldn’t say that it was as big as the game because I waited my
entire life for it. But the White House has a mystique and it was a
great experience. Sixty football players were there and I never saw so
many grown men in awe. It was a humbling experience.

You recently started the Keyaron Fox Foundation.
How important is it for you to be a positive role model in your community?

I’m willing to give back to community anyway that I can. While
everything is still fresh, I wanted to shine light on the community. I
tell kids to stay focus and think big. Sometimes you have to miss out
on articles and other distractions. You have to be around positive
things that will help you achieve your dream.
