For two decades now, Brooklyn-born beat technician Easy Mo Bee has supplied the sonic backdrop for hip-hop’s finest talents. Dating as far back as Big Daddy Kane’s groundbreaking 1988 album It’s A Big Daddy Thing to Tupac’s Me Against the World and Notorious B.I.G’s “Ready to Die,” all the way to laying down present-day production for sultry songbird Alicia Keys and revolutionary rapper Mos Def, Mo Bee has withstood the test of time and ably adapted to every phase of urban music.

Rolling out recently caught up with the Easy Mo Bee. And the soundboard supplier graciously offered advice to upcoming producers looking to get a foothold in the musical arena.

1. “Make sure you get a full understanding of this business so you can get your money. You got to get paid.”

2. “Research the whole understanding of the genre of the music you are entering. If we understand some of the greats and how they did it, we’ll understand how much better we can do it.”

3. “Be fully aware of all of your resources. We didn’t have all of the stuff the industry has right now like the internet and so many other digital options.”

4. “Find a good lawyer.”

5. “Be original. We have a whole lot of copy cats right now. We don’t need too much more of the same sounding music out here. It would be nice for somebody to step out and be different. And don’t ever try to be Easy Mo Bee because you won’t do it.”
