Tips to manage stress while thriving in the music industry

bodywellMany people would only be too happy to auction off a couple of their internal organs to make it in one of the most glamorous and coveted genres in the world — the music industry. But the music industry is one that’s wrought with invisible hazards, teeming with temptations and filled with predators that pounce on people. This is in addition to the immense pressure to produce hits that help finance that extravagant lifestyle. These aspects of the business cause undue stress on the mind and body that many young people in particularly, are ill-equipped or unwilling to reconcile in their pursuit of icon status. That’s why it is paramount for musicians to remain vigilant regarding their emotional, mental and physical welfare and to diffuse or greatly reduce stress.
Unmistakably and undeniably, there is a social Darwinist aspect to the industry — survival of the fittest — that most music aspirants and would-be legends often fail to factor in when entering the business. Survival of the fittest means more than having the best producers, writers and managers in place and a good contract with the major label. It also means that you must keep your temple strong so that it is sufficiently insulated against an adverse world that is both extremely rewarding and taxing.
Proper diet: Only performers with enough fuel in the tank to withstand the rigorous schedule of recording, promoting, performing, interviewing and partying will rise to the top and experience longevity in the industry.
Sufficient preparation: Lack of adequate preparation and information about the nuances of the business will lead people to enter into bad contracts, investment deals, and subject you to being swindled by two-legged reptiles lurking on your perimeter. That means you could sell 12 million albums like super-group TLC did in the 1990s and still wind up broke. That will cause MAJOR stress.
Drinking: Keep alcohol consumption moderate.
Plentiful rest: People vastly underestimate the importance of adequate rest. Without rest, the body cannot repair and heal itself. Also, poorly rested people are particularly susceptible to viruses, frequent bouts with colds and even diseases as the body’s natural defense mechanism has been compromised. Taking vitamins: This will augment a good diet and proper rest
