For the past two years, media maven Oprah Winfrey has stood atop Forbes’ annual Celebrity 100 list. But when this year’s rankings were released, Winfrey’s reign was no more. Slipping down to the No. 2 spot, Winfrey was overtaken by the star appeal of actress Angelina Jolie. Even though Winfrey outperformed Jolie by a whopping $275 million to $27 million margin, her earnings weren’t enough to maintain a stranglehold on the top spot.“Jolie’s fame, [as] evidenced by magazine covers and TV, radio, newspaper and Web stories, outweighed Winfrey’s, giving her the edge as ‘the most powerful celebrity in the world’ based on Forbes’ formula,” said Matthew Miller, Forbes’ senior editor. “We try and measure a celebrity’s power, and we look at two metrics to do that. We look at money, and we look at fame.”
Other notables rounding out the top 10 this year were Beyoncé Knowles, Tiger Woods, and Kobe Bryant. In case you missed the entire list, here is the official rundown.
