Lil Wayne Rocks America’s Most Wanted Festival (Minus Drake)

New York
Some of the biggest anthems of the summer were performed at the
America’s Most Wanted Music Festival featuring Lil Wayne and his Young
Money crew, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and Jeremih. Held at Jones Beach in
NYC, the diverse crowd was mostly there to see Lil Wayne, but the
question on the tip of everyone’s tongue was whether or not they would
get to see Drake perform after he fell during a stop in Camden, N.J.
They wouldn’t.

Reportedly, Drake will undergo surgery on his injured knee.

Injuries aside, let’s see if one of the most anticipated tours of the summer made the grade.

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne:
This tour without a doubt seals Lil Wayne’s status as a modern-day
icon. Running through hits like “A Milli” and “Fireman,” he performed
for two hours, with Birdman briefly popping up on stage with him. Of
course, there was a brief Michael Jackson tribute, as well as a
completely random salute to Beyoncé. Drake or no Drake, it was clearly
Wayne’s world. Grade: A+

Soulja Boy:
Soulja performed before half of the crowd even got there, but he still
turned his swag on super high and performed as if it were a packed
house. Hands down, he had one of the best sets of the show. Grade: A

Young Jeezy: Jeezy
gets an ‘A’ for effort, mainly because he incorporated a live band in
his set, but he gets an ‘F’ for style. Really, who rocks leather in the
summer? He was actually cut off during “My President is Black” because
his set ran too long. Grade: B-

Jeremih:

The show began on time, to the surprise of the many fans that came
streaming into the venue during the third set.  The early birds got a
special treat from “Birthday Sex” singer, Jeremih, who rocked. Grade: B

Nicki Minaj: Hip-hop’s
“Barbie Doll” brought it, even though she doesn’t have a full-length
album out yet. Holding her own with the boys, she showed she has the
chops to be a force in the game. Grade: B

All
in all, the concert, which was one of the best hip-hop shows of the
season, displayed why Wayne and company truly are America’s Most
Wanted. –rhonesha byng
