Marvin R. Ellison
the heart of a leader
Marvin
R. Ellison knows and understands the qualities of an effective leader.
As a presidential history buff, Ellison has spent countless hours
studying the character traits that separated those men of distinction
from everyone else. Perhaps it was his intimate understanding of
leadership within a historical context that made Ellison the prime
candidate to become The Home Depot’s executive vice president of U.S.
stores.
“I am responsible for the sales,
profit and team development of over 1,900 U.S. stores for The Home
Depot in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam,” says Ellison.
For
any executive, the primary goal is ensure the company’s profitability.
Outside of that universal law, Ellison views his position as a platform
for empowerment. “I want to take steps to help the associates achieve a
better way of life,” he says emphatically. “This company will be 30
years old this year, and if you look at it historically, it has created
a lot of wealth for people. … So I want to reignite that process so
people can begin to feel like this is a place where they can create
great futures for themselves and their families.”
That
mission coupled with the core tenets of his daily work activities bring
him to fulfillment on a daily basis, but he most appreciates the time
he gets to spend with loved ones. “I’m blessed to have two kids and a
wonderful wife,” he states proudly. “And … if I’m not working, I am
spending time with my family.”–dewayne rogers
