Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant- Weaving Tales of Sorrow and Triumph
Co-Authors, What Doesn’t Kill You
If
you think your finances are in shambles – meet Thomasina “Tee” Hodges,
a forty-something single mother who’s lost her job as a top assistant
at an innovative cosmetics company. In an inspirational new book from
co-authors Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant, the protagonist also loses
her man and her home before crawling from under a total financial
collapse to rebuild her life.
“When we wrote this book, we had no idea [of] how timely it would be,”
shares Grant, co-author of What Doesn’t Kill You. “We started the book
in 2005 [but] we ended up doing Gotta Keep on Tryin’ and Tryin’ to
Sleep in the Bed You Made. Then, we got back to this one. I guess we
were supposed to do it in that order.”
Best friends for 25 years, co-authors Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant
recently released their sixth novel, and this past January held the
“Your Best Broke Story” contest, which offered cash prizes to winners.
DeBerry says, “People have either been where Tee is personally, or know
someone [who] has. [Through] our contest, readers wrote and told us
about the time when they were broke and how they got through.”
The readers’ submissions were tales of tears and triumphs. “I think
that it has been uplifting for us and the writers because people have
said, ‘I haven’t really gotten that off my chest and I am glad to have
a way to do that,’ ” offers Grant.
DeBerry and Grant are currently on tour and doing book signings.
