Upscale Hair Salon, The GlamBar Takes Black Beauty to New Heights

sabrina petersonNestled in Castleberry Hill, Atlanta’s trendy and historic art district, is The GlamBar — a posh beauty salon that virtually a girl’s haven. Decorated in Barbie-pink-inspired colors, ladies are treated like celebrities the moment they step inside the foyer and walk on the floor embedded with a row of stars, reminiscent of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. The brainchild of entrepreneur and minister-in-training Sabrina Peterson, The GlamBar is set a part from most “beauty shops.” Here the Decatur, Ga., native highlights who’s whipping up hairstyles behind the scenes, what a diva can expect while awaiting her experience, and the salon’s unique amenities.

“We’ve recruited some of Atlanta’s finest stylists like Willie from “Tears, Shears & Beauty” [reality show]; James who won the Hair Battle at the Bronner Bros. International Hair Show [succeeding the title from celebrity stylist Derek J.]; Dariel from Keyshia Cole’s show; and Barby from Dass Salon and Spa,” shares the flaxened-haired Peterson.

Top-of-the-line hair products are used during every service and some are available for purchase including Miss Jessie’s, Rockaholic, Dumb Blonde and Bed Head products.

“We feed the women’s minds here by offering a library of self-help books for their reading pleasure — Secrets of a Millionaire Mind, Think and Grow Rich, Body Language, [and] Jesus is My Life Coach, [et al.]. We don’t really offer magazines here,” says the 20-something entrepreneur. Additionally, inspirational notes, scriptures and words of encouragement are available in the reception area.

Once clients check-in at The GlamBar, a concierge is at their service. Each person is given a dryer menu, which lists the options available during their visit: endless wine pours for $5, a beverage of their choice, laptop and iPod reservations, and you can put in your order for lunch from a neighboring restaurant while sitting under the dryer on the pink couches, waiting to get your tresses curled and camera-ready.

For the adventurous, pole dancing lessons are available on the weekend. Bring your sweet tooth, there’s cake, candy and cupcakes too! –yvette caslin
