Despite torrential rainfall in Atlanta, die-hard Goodie Mob fans showed up in droves to witness the group’s official reunion at the Masquerade Music Park, an outdoor facility. After a 10-year absence from the music scene, Khujo, T-Mo, Big Gipp and Cee-Lo decided to put aside past differences to give their hometown a special show on a special night.
Accompanied by a live band, the group kept the crowd’s enthusiasm high as they performed hits such as “Goodie Bag,” “Dirty South,” “Black Ice,” and a rock rendition of “Cell Therapy.” Cee-Lo, the Goodie Mob’s most notable member, performed his hit single “Crazy” and even covered Frankie Beverly’s classic, “Before I let You Go.” “Beautiful Skin,” “Git Up, Git Out,” and “They Don’t Dance No Mo,” were also crowd favorites. By the time the group took their final bow, it was evident that a void had been left by their absence from the music scene.
However, the only thing that may have marred Goodie Mob’s memorable performance was the lack of overall support from the Dungeon Family. Big Boi, Sleepy Brown, and Backbone were the only members of the Dungeon Family to grace the stage alongside Goodie Mob. And the fans noticed. As the group walked off the stage, hundreds of fans began to chant, “Watch for the Hook!” The Dungeon Family’s ultimate posse cut, “Watch for the Hook” features Cool Breeze, the Witch Doctor, OutKast and Goodie Mob.
“It was a great show,” said Marcus Little of Atlanta. “But I kind of wanted to see the entire Dungeon Family come out to support the Goodie Mob. It would have been nice to see André [3000], Cool Breeze, the Witch Doctor, and even Organized Noize on stage.”
The success of Goodie Mob’s reunion concert may have opened the door for a possible reunion featuring the entire Dungeon Family. Eager fans await that day.
