Building Your Brand: Tips To Protect Your Image On Social Media Networking Sites

girl on computerIt seems like everyone has a social website these days be it
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or MySpace. Although social media sites are the new
craze, people are forgetting that they have to watch what they say because it
may affect opportunities for new jobs and current ones. You never know who may
be looking at your site. Employers and others use social networking sites to
find people. If they do not know you, they’re first impression is based on your
social media page. Believe it or not you’re a brand, what you do reflects on who
you are and how people perceive you. Remember, image is everything!

Tips to protect your image:

1. Use
the sites for networking and keeping in touch with family and friends.

2. Avoid getting
too personal or offering too much information about your job and/or other people.

3. Post
pictures that perceive you in a positive way — not pictures of you making it rain
in the club.

4. Avoid
comments about your relationships — don’t put your ex-boo on blast if they
dumped you or cheated on you. It makes you look bitter.

5. If
you’re not supposed to be on social media sites at work, don’t. Keep your
day job.

6. Make your
page/comments private so that only your friends can see what you’re
saying.
