Hundreds of kids along with celebs packed The Waiting Room in Atlanta to
help Lil’ Wayne’s daughter Reginae celebrate her 11th birthday,
including Lil’ Wayne himself, his mother Cita, singer Monica, reality TV
stars Tiny and Toya, musician T-Pain and his mother, rapper Rasheeda and Ne-Yo’s
mother, Loraine.
Wayne declined
several interview requests, but friends and relatives shared
their feelings about the pajama party that lasted an hour-and-a-half past closing
time.
“Today meant a lot to me,” said Toya, aka Antonia Carter, of
BET’s “Tiny and Toya” reality show, the highest-rated program on the network. They
were also taping an episode for the second season during the party. “It is my
daughter’s 11th birthday. I’m very excited. It was a great turnout. All
her family and friends were here. Everybody showed out and I’m just excited to
be able to put a smile on her face. That’s what it’s all about.”
Toya’s co-star, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, chimed in: “The
party was the jam, you know? We balled out. It was off the chain.”
Cita Carter, Lil’ Wayne’s mother, also enjoyed entertaining partygoers with a mini-concert, featuring kid performances. “We
had a nice time, had a little concert. My son, Lil’ Wayne, is here. We had a
great time together. It was special because a lot of people came in
from New Orleans. So it’s like family and … people from all over,” said Cita, who passed on the opportunity to speak on her son’s upcoming jail
sentence. But she did share her pride in her son’s multiplatinum success. “He
had a lot of talent coming up. I used to wonder why they used to knock on the
door all the time and ask him [Wayne] to come out and rap. I’m proud of him, I love him. He’s my world.”
Faheem Rasheed Najm, better known as
rapper-singer-songwriter-producer T-Pain, 24, summed up the sentiments of the
evening when he said, “Tonight was good man, just a whole lot of love. I got up
in the deejay booth; it was sweet,” he said, cranking up the kids’ party with
new school and oldies but goodies. “And seeing little Wayne coming out, it was just great.
Aw man, not to bring up the bad, but I had to support my dog before he go in
that [jail], you know what I’m saying?”
The party doubled up as a going-away, send-off, for Lil’ Wayne who will spend a year in jail for gun possession conviction. –terry shropshire
