TV personality and beauty expert Lady Emmy enjoys helping people. The Renaissance woman is also a licensed, board-certified family and relationship counselor and life coach. Her positive
outlook and passion for women’s issues is evident in her efforts to help guide
and mentor women young and old and she urges more people to take up the cause.
“I
think that the easiest way to [reach people] is hands-on,” explains Lady Emmy. “That’s
why we need more mentors and more people that are actually out there in the
community. A PSA alone can’t do it, a
program on TV with a disclaimer before and after can’t do it, we have to get
involved in the community.”
Lady Emmy believes that sitting down with young
people, understanding who they are, and truly listening to their concerns and
fears is the only way to really impart knowledge and initiate change.
“When you
start talking about broad-based things that we try to do, it’s never going to be
as effective as having a mentor in a young person’s life that they can
actually see and hang out with every now and then. Until you reach out to a
young person and make an impact in their lives, it’s always external and it won’t
connect. The people I’ve had the most impact on are the people I’ve had time to
speak to on more than one occasion or they become more familiar with me. Those are
the situations that really take effect,” she says.
With so many professional hats, Lady Emmy does not worry
about balancing them all. Her multifaceted approach is what makes her so
unique, and she notes that being a single woman enables her to focus on a myriad
of projects, knowing that she will reap the benefits in the long run.
“I don’t
have a family, so the way that I balance my life can be different from someone who
does have a spouse or children,” she says. “The only other time for myself that
I need is time for me. So I’m able to maneuver and work a lot more with the
time that I do have. For me, success is long term and I’m working really hard
trying to set up my life and career so that when I do have a family, my
family can be my number one priority. That’s what success will look like to me.
I’m not at that stage yet. When I get to that point — that will be success.”
In the meantime, Lady Emmy’s greatest joy is in knowing she’s
helping others find their path to success.
“When they say something or do
something [and] you can definitely see the fruit of some seed that you’ve sown,
that’s what makes everything worth it. Those are the things that you can never
be paid for. At the end of the day, that’s what will bring a smile [to] my face,” she says.
