Jermaine Jackson Hair Makeover: Stylists, Fashionistas offer Tips

For fans of Michael Jackson and the first family of music, “The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty” provides insight into the mindsets of the other members who made up the Jackson 5. Yet, as the show concluded its third weekend run on A&E, the biggest question surrounding the show is not; when the 40th anniversary album will come out, or where the tour will begin, or why Randy is not involved, or even where Janet is. No, the biggest question thus far has been:

What is up with Jermaine Jackson’s hair?

Some people are amused while others are actually disturbed by the manner, dress and hairstyle of Jermaine, 53, who some say comes off as a egocentric prima donna trying to relive his teenage sex-symbol days. “Jermaine Jackson’s hair bothers me ……smh [shake my head],” is all Dakota Davis of Atlanta could say. “It looks like Chris Tucker’s hair in that movie The Fifth Element – “Well over-processed,” commented another Tweeter. “He needs to go bald.”

Kim Elba, a celebrity stylist and makeup artist who has done work for several major motion picture studios, said Jermaine’s hair needs major alterations. “We both know that he obviously is stuck in his box-top, glued-to-the-sides kind of hairstyle, and it would do wonders for him to have a fresh, up-to-date lower cut hair style,” says Elba, owner of Makeup Your Mind boutique.

Some casual observers find Jermaine’s curious coif rather fascinating, like a rare zoo exhibit. “I want to touch that hair and see if that’s paint or real hair,” wrote Shawn Toombs. “Anybody remember the Redman and Method Man video where they had on the plastic hair helmets? That’s Jermaine!” added Kevin King.

Keela Starr, owner of KStarr Management which represents models and entertainers, says Jermaine’s hair change may or may not require surgery. “Since the untimely death of the King of Pop, I have studied this character quite thoroughly. Jermaine Jackson’s name is synonymous with the term ‘hot mess’. He needs an extreme makeover inside and out. From the plastered, lacquered hair, to the MJ hand me downs, to the see-me, love-me persona, it screams ‘I am self-absorbed, it’s all about me,'” she says. Starr suggests Jermaine would come off better if he would “wear purple Ralph Lauren if he wants to be a little avant garde, maybe Dolce and Gabbana. If he sticks with the nice, conservatively chic attire, some of his other downfalls may be overlooked.”

Elba says that changing Jermaine’s look will be a challenge because he “seems to walk to the beat of his own drum when it comes to choosing his clothes, and with that I mean he is not a slave to fashion — which can be refreshing but also, at times scary,” she says. “He is most definitely a man that can carry some color. However I would like to see him in some more tailored, up-to-date looks. [I] could see him in a great pair of jeans with a layered look at top. – terry shropshire.
