Rasheed Wallace, a forward for the Boston Celtics, has been fined $35,000 by the NBA for making negative comments about officials in public following a 99–90 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Quite the expensive muzzle, isn’t it?
Stu Jackson, the NBA’s executive vice president of operations, announced the decision in a statement released Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Wallace, one of the league’s most-ejected players, was venting about receiving what he felt were too many calls against him:
“The refs don’t like no tough defense on (high-scoring Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki),” he told reporters. “So of course I get a whole lot of [expletive] calls, but that’s how the story goes.”
After Wallace was benched in the second half by the team’s coach Rivers due to foul trouble, Nowitzki scored 22 of his 37 total game points.
“I ain’t worried about it,” the 14-year veteran told The Dallas Morning News. “We’ll see them again (and) there will be retribution.” –gerald radford
