Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief will be televised on TV One on Friday, Jan. 22. The performances will take place in New York, Los Angeles and London.
The former Fugees member and prolific songwriter will be in New York City with Mary J., Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Shakira and former Police front man Sting.
Alicia Keys will perform a medley of hits in Los Angeles with Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift. Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow and Keith Urban are also scheduled to help anchor the West Coast portion of the telethon.
In London, hip-hop impresario Jay-Z will post up on stage with U2’s Bono, a man almost as legendary for his global activism as for his timeless music. Rihanna and The Edge will join them for a group performance. Coldplay is also scheduled to be on the London ticket.
The telethon will highlight powerful personal testimonials from a wide variety of entertainers and artists, who have also agreed to man the phones to raise money for one of the bloodiest natural disasters ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere. Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told reporters that at least 72,000 bodies have been recovered out of the 200,000 believed to have perished in the earthquake in Port-au-Prince. –terry shropshire
