‘In the Name of God’: Baptist Pastors Prayed for Obama’s Death on President’s Day

President’s Day is usually set aside for Americans to give pause to remembering George Washington and his contributions, but a couple of Baptist pastors used the date to devote their time to praying for President Barack Obama’s death — in the name of God.

The pastors called upon what’s called the “Imprecatory Prayer” to justify wishing harm, through cancer or other natural causes, to the nation’s first black leader. Baptist preachers Steven L. Anderson of Arizona and California’s Wiley Drake told supporters in an e-mail over the weekend that the supplication is “now your DUTY,” according to newser.com.

If “you have an evil leader above you, you pray that Satan will stand by his side and you ask God to make his children fatherless and his wife a widow and that his time in office be short,” Drake told one columnist. Anderson has said he hopes Obama dies of brain cancer “today.” To those offended by his wished, Wiley responds: “I’m praying the word of God. I didn’t write it. Don’t get mad at me.”

The prayer these twisted pastors are using to justify their actions is, in fact, biblical, but under extremely different circumstances. They have bent Scripture to meet their duplicitous needs and are potentially taking congregations of trusting sheep straight to the slaughter house, an act the Bible does address in no uncertain terms. Many will likely write this incident off to racism or simple vitriolic ramblings, but the Secret Service isn’t. They are now investigating both pastors. Religion run completely amuck. –gerald radford
