One solid mixtape can change the life of a hip-hop artist. Young Jeezy created a buzz in the streets and signed with Def Jam records after releasing his mixtape Trap or Die. Eminem signed 50 Cent once he heard Guess Who’s Back? Drake’s So Far Gone catapulted the Toronto emcee into the upper echelon of hip-hop artists. Wise’s Pursuit of a Dream could be the next mixtape that takes the hip-hop world by storm. Wise recently spoke with rolling out about his new mixtape. –amir shaw
What can we expect from Pursuit of a Dream?
There are three parts to the mixtape. There is The Aspiration, The Distraction and The Motivations. It encompasses a person chasing a dream. There is a lot of stuff that goes on when you are chasing a dream and I tell people what happens. What inspires you to do what you do? What distracts you and what is the motivation that keeps you going?
Can you break down each section?
The Aspiration is cherishing the desire. Why do you aspire to be an artist? I want to let the world know what I do.
The Distraction is chasing your dreams and experiencing things that can keep you off course like the women, clubbing and getting drunk. It’s the worldly part.
The Motivation is what keeps you going. The hating, the people who push you and the day-to-day job and that keeps you on course for your dream.
What will separate this mixtape from others?
When you look online, everyone is caught up in making pop music. They are not being real with themselves. It’s important to give yourself to the music. I give myself to it and I want to make classic music. I’m young, but I feel like I come from the era of guys like Kool G. Rap and Big Daddy Kane.
